Living one great, big adventure in New Zealand!

Top 10 Lessons Learned from Ex-Pats in New Zealand

Today Brock and I celebrated 4 months of being in beautiful New Zealand.

We started to reminisce. But instead of writing a whole page of what we’ve been up to lately…we decided to compile a “Top 10 Lessons” we’ve learned from being here.

1. Live downtown for the first 2 weeks. We were able to get soooo much accomplished: found free wifi at the public library, finalized our bank account, found a house to rent, searched for cars, walked EVERYWHERE, and lots more.

2. DON’T TRY TO BUY A CAR in the first 3 days of being in New Zealand. We were jet-lagged, and on the third day we went to a car-lot to look at cars. Some Russian guy tried to sell us an old, beat-up car for about $4,500. We declined and thought to research a little more. We found THE SAME EXACT car from the same dealer on TradeMe (equavalent to Craigslist) for $1,500. Those Russians! 🙂 Just kidding. Russians are cool.

3. The spirit of the El Camino still lives through the Holden (GMC of Australia) Commodore and Ford Falcon UTEs. They love their truck-cars.

4. Bring your jorts (jeans shorts). They’re still cool here amongst the dudes.

5. Apply for your physio license 1 year in advance. Bring a whole extra carry-on full of patience with you. The Board is made up of …

But in all honesty, we have LOVED our experience in New Zealand so far.

We’ve been able to do so many incredible things, meet awesome people, and see some of the most breath taking coastal scenery we’ve ever witnessed.

Stay tuned for the remaining five “Lessons Learned” in future posts.
